Understanding the Lean System

The name Lean System is used to define a set of concepts, practices and tools developed by Toyota. The system originated in the company’s plants, making Toyota an important reference in every discussion about Lean Manufacturing.
Broadening the application of this set of concepts, practices and tools beyond the “borders of manufacturing” gave rise to the term Lean Enterprise.
Several authors, scholars and experts also recognize a set of mental models, attitudes and opinions grouped under the catch-all term “Lean Thinking.”
